Pond/River dipping

Ponds are great places to look at a whole new world of minibeasts adapted to a very different way of life. Using nets and simple identification guides the pupils will discover the diversity of life in a pond using some simple classification. They will create a food chain by finding out what the animals eat and they will discover how they are adapted to live where they do for example how they breath, move around and avoid being eaten. They will also find out about some of the life cycles in a pond. KS1 are restricted to the pond but KS2 have the option of exploring the river to compare its inhabitatnts with the pond life found.(KS1 & KS2)
